Lemmings for Playdate

This preservation-focused Playdate port brings all 120 levels from the original DOS Lemmings to the crank-powered handheld, rebuilt for its 1-bit display and  crank support.  The original DOS game was painstakingly decompiled for this faithful translation to the Playdate.  The incredible Atari Lynx port was the main inspiration for this project, but unlike the Lynx port which has some visual compromises, this Playdate port is nearly perfectly true to the original DOS version with enhanced controls and quality of life improvements.

Playdate features/enhancements include all four difficulty ratings: Fun, Tricky, Taxing, and Mayhem, along with all 120 original DOS levels, crisp 2× 1bit gameplay graphics, terrain dithering, crank-controlled simulation speed, mouse-inspired lemming selection, an animated action menu, terrain previews, saved progress, completed-level tracking, quick restarts, and a beautiful level selection.

The music is synthesized live using an optimized AdLib/OPL2 emulator driven by the original DOS music data. Every note, instrument, register change, and loop is recreated in real time, giving the soundtrack the unmistakable nostalgic character of the original hardware without storing the music as large prerecorded samples.

DOS port for Playdate by bstar.  AI is used to assist making an extremely faithful port from the original DOS bytecode.  All assets and concepts are original for this port. The download comes in at around 1mb!
